Día de la Mujer en la Ingeniería: Conoce los programas que impulsan el desarrollo de las mujeres en el sector construcción

  • Currently, 20.58% of Pacasmayo’s employees are women in STEM positions.
  • According to data from the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI), as of 2021, women represented 9.6% of the construction sector workforce, exceeding the figure recorded the previous year by 1.4%. This may indicate that more programs are being implemented within the sector to involve women in this industry, particularly professionals dedicated to engineering.

In addition, in recent years companies across various industries have increasingly implemented initiatives aimed at strengthening the skills of women in STEM roles—that is, positions linked to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

“According to information provided by UNESCO in 2022, in Peru 47.5% of engineering professionals are women. At Pacasmayo, we have been working to increase this figure through the implementation of programs such as Constructoras del Futuro,” commented Peggy Guzmán, Compensation, Culture, and Experience Manager at Cementos Pacasmayo.

Constructoras del Futuro is a professional internship program for women aimed at promoting their inclusion and development in the construction sector. Targeted at graduates of engineering programs from universities nationwide, it offers a valuable opportunity for training and practical experience. To date, it has positively impacted 20 women engineers, supporting their professional growth.

The company’s objective is to promote a greater presence of female talent in its operations. It is worth noting that currently 20.58% of Pacasmayo’s employees are women in STEM positions.

“While we recognize that there is still a long way to go, this figure reflects our efforts to promote female talent. Since 2020, we have had a Diversity and Inclusion Committee that actively works to make Pacasmayo a safe, diverse, and inclusive workplace,” Guzmán added.

Likewise, in 2023 the company launched the Sustainability Ambassadors program, which includes a group of ambassadors called “Allies for Equity,” where both male and female employees promote and implement actions that benefit diversity and inclusion within the organization.

In this way, Pacasmayo continues to strengthen its commitment to talent in order to evolve into a more diverse and inclusive company that fosters innovation and sustainability in its business.
