Cuatro razones para asegurar la buena construcción del techo de una vivienda

The importance of building a good roof lies in factors such as functionality, durability, and the overall safety of a family. The roof is one of the most important structural elements of a home, as it helps withstand climatic conditions and serves as a barrier against any external factors or elements. Likewise, the construction of this part of a home’s structure also represents the closing of one stage and the beginning of another, such as the addition of a second floor.

“The construction of a roof, a wall, or any part of a home’s structure represents for families a path toward progressive development and the fulfillment of a dream. For these dreams to continue becoming reality, it is important for families to clearly visualize their goals, allocate an appropriate budget, and seek expert advice when selecting materials and ensuring the proper construction of their projects,” commented Guillermo Magán Arias, AYU leader at Pacasmayo. AYU is a service launched by the cement company in Trujillo in 2022, aimed at helping families acquire the materials they need for their projects without debt or interest.

In this regard, Guillermo Magán Arias highlights four important reasons why families should pay special attention to the construction of their home roofs:

  1. The roof acts as a protective barrier against harsh weather conditions: A well-built roof is essential to protect a home’s structure from adverse weather conditions, such as heavy rainfall. Therefore, it is important to plan its construction carefully, considering quality materials and skilled workmanship.
  2. It protects the structural integrity of the home: Proper roof construction helps prevent future problems such as wall deterioration and other structural damage caused by water leaks or general wear. For this reason, it is important to check the roof’s waterproofing and insulation conditions and carry out any necessary adjustments or maintenance.
  3. It prevents health problems caused by moisture: A poorly maintained roof can lead to mold buildup, which may affect the health of family members. Over time, this situation can even damage walls, potentially causing them to collapse or become severely deteriorated.
  4. It promotes energy efficiency: A well-designed and properly built roof can help maintain indoor temperature efficiently, reducing heat loss in winter and minimizing heat entry in summer.

Finally, Magán adds another key factor to ensure the construction of a good roof: establishing an effective budget that aligns with the family’s financial possibilities—that is, properly managing the resources to be invested in the project in order to avoid cost overruns and rushed decisions. “Families should evaluate alternatives once they have defined the construction project they wish to undertake. For example, they can begin saving regularly by setting weekly or monthly goals, as the first group of families participating in AYU has been doing. These families secure their materials month by month and receive personalized guidance from specialists as part of the benefits of this service,” he commented.

It is worth mentioning that Pacasmayo’s AYU initiative achieved the first roof installation for the Ventura family by the end of 2023. After 12 months of saving, they were able to make their dream a reality.
